Hi littlemissclumsy,
Welcome to Old Style :hello:
If you have a look at Martin's Budget Planner, that should help you to find out if/where you are overspending and give you ideas on how you could cut back. He's also written an article on Supermarket Shopping which has lots of hints and tips on saving money on groceries.
As others have said meal planning and using food from your storecupboard is a good idea. Have a look at The Complete Menu Plans Collection for some ideas and the Grocery challenge is a good thread where you'll get lots of support...the new thread for January will start on 28th December.
Finally, if you manage to get through that lot here are some threads with lots of ideas for cheap meals:
Cheapest recipes???
Meal for two for 50p. Suggestions?
The Cheapest Healthy Meal Ever!
Feed 6 for £1.62

Your Cheapest Evening Meal.
cheap, easy family meals
Good luck, and if you need any more help just come back and ask...there is always someone who will be able to help.

Welcome littlemissclumsy
this place is really addictive - for many things. I actually have my breakfast every morning sitting at the comp reading all the posts from the previous evening. I always check out this board and, more recently, the Christmas board as well. So many ideas that I found too late for this Christmas - but are now copied into a folder on my comp for next year.
You will find lots of friendly folks on here who are only too willing to share their recipes and ideas to help you get out your problems. We've all been there to some degree or other - so it proves that there is light at the end of that long dark tunnel that it feels like you're in at the moment.
Good luck and keep talking to your OH - you need to be doing this together and it WILL make you stronger as a family.

welcome to the board.
there is some fantastic information on here. and if u have any questions about anythign , just post and u know it will get answered asap.
i don't apply everything i learn on here, but it great knowing if i do need to tighten the belt one month i can just pop on here for some wonderful advice without feeling like i'm missing out on anything.0 -
If you can cook veggie meals - might not please all eight of you though! - you can buy big bags of lentils and chickpeas, which will go a long way. Soya mince is cheap and filling as well. You could also use any of these to 'pad out' a meal by adding them to a little decent meat, and it's a lot healthier than making a meal out of cheap meat.0
