Get the model name, then google for reviews. Also look on www.cnet.co.uk and https://www.avforums.co.uk
  • I am not techy when it comes to TVs but I am sure I saw big plasmas in the John Lewis sale. Might be worth checking out as don't they have a 5 year guarantee on their tellys?
  • What credit card is this?, i'm after a card that gives good extended warrantys :)

    Thanks

personally i would go for PS50Q97HDX from samsung.
this thread http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=509285&page=206 gives all possible problems and advice,i got the 42" 8 weeks ago and its a great box for freeview sky+ and terrestrial tv its also great for HD too but most of your viewing will normal tv unless of course you are paying sky for HD channels.
i read up for quite some time on this and other tvs for me this one was best for value and quality especially for SD tv ie: freeview etc.
over 40" inch the advice seems to be plasma especially for sport and again SD viewing.
there is a large thread on the link going back over quite some time and people give plenty of advice, obviously having purchased this tv i will be biast and so will people on that forum but you can read between the lines, there are issue with all these large new tvs.
personally i would read thru the rest of the AV FORUM under plasma and lcd and make up my mind from there ,if there is a large thread on a tv then generally you will find it popular and a decent box.
    hope this helps.

First thing to bear in mind. Most of the HDTV sets sold in the UK over
the last few years are not true HD i.e. 1080P resolution which is why retailers are trying to shift the old stock to make way for 1080P
    sets and why 50" 1080P Plasma's are very expensive (£1800 for a
Panasonic). Before buying a set take a good look in Comet and Currys and pay special attention to the viewing angles. This looks like a good buy :

Currys - PANASONIC TH42PZ70B 42" HD Ready 1080P digital Plasma TV for £899.99

There are several 40"-42" 1080P LCD sets for under £1000.
