Re. requirement to 'renew' Oyster 60+ card?

According to the Oystercard website, anyone who first got their 60+ card in 2019 or later is required to pay an annual £10 fee to renew and provide fresh proof of a current London address (eg. council tax bill). TfL is charging 60+ Oyster card holders £10 a year to prove they still live in London - MyLondon I got mine in March last year but the expiry date on it isn't until March 2030. A friend of mind has her 1 year anniversary of getting the card next week but hasn't yet received any email to tell her that she needs to renew it. How much notice of this have other people had?

It’s not a new system, it’s been in place since 2020. Were you not given information about it when you got the card? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
TfL will use whatever contact details have been given, so make sure they are up to date.0

I now have an update on this. My friend has been told by TFL that she will get a renewal email on Feb 1st and will have 6 weeks to pay the £10 and prove she is still living in the London Borough.0 -

Even the though card doesn't expire for several years you still have to prove your entitlement on a yearly basis. If you didn't, or couldn't, they can 'turn off' the card remotely so that it wouldn't work on the touch pads at stations and on buses, regardless of the expiry date.

On a slightly different topic: Sadiq Khan is talking about giving Londoners off peak travel for the whole of Fridays for a trial period. I wonder whether Oyster 60+ card holders will be allowed to use the pass during the morning peak period during that time?0 -

The cheap Friday travel is not very definite at the moment as rail companies also need to agree as travel within London is not exclusively on TfL services, so will be well into the future and may not happen at all.You already get a better deal than the rest of the country as your card allows free tube as well as bus travel. It would be good if my national bus pass was valid on local rail services and the tube when I come to London ...0
