Private Pensions for self employed

Hi, I had a quick look, but is there a list on here for pension providers for self employed? Or if not is there a good comparison site? thanks

Most providers will be ok for someone who is self employed.

You can choose from most if not all providers, being self employed makes no difference.
I’m self employed and just opened a Sipp.
The main question will be - do you want to make your own specific investment decisions ,  do you just want to choose your risk level and go for a ready made portfolio or do you want a managed solution?

Do you already have a pension?  If so, what sort?

You can be on PAYE, a company director, self employed, unemployed, retired etc and most pension providers are happy with your business.
The only issue is that they will all add basic rate tax relief automatically. It is up to you not to add too much so your get more tax relief than you are entitled to.

The main point that most people miss, is that your money is actually held in investments within the pension. The pension provider is really only an administrator.
This might give you some ideas.

Sounds as if you might find a free telephone appointment helpful: https://www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/pensions-and-retirement/pensions-basics/midlife-review-for-self-employed-people
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
  • Great thanks all, I will have a look into it. I currently have no pension and I am in my 50s so I really need to sort something out.
