Partial retirement or just keep going?

As a single person, approaching 70 this year, same job since 1971. I highly recommend part time working if you enjoy the job you do. I was lucky, took my deferred Civil Service pension at 60, dropped down to three day week, then took my Company Pension that replaced the CSP at 64, (financial advisor asked why I hadn't taken it, he looked at it as lost money) started paying into the Stakeholder Pension. At 65+ 9 months started the new State Pension. Last year at 68+6 months did hand my resignation in, as I thought the company wanted me to leave, turned out they had no plans for my job when I retired, so I asked if they wanted me to do 2 days a week until they did have a plan (work did not need 3 or 5 day week, not enough to do) but to tell me and I'd be happy to go, still also happy to stay on. I would have paid more into the stakeholder, just to pay less tax, if I'd known I was staying on longer at the start. I am also happy if I don't last that long after I do finally retire and tell people that if I pop my clogs not long after retiring, don't feel sorry as I am living a good work/balance life. Holidays, when I want and gadget money a plenty. May be due to me being single of course, so no need to think about who I leave money to. I can spoil friends with treats due to the extra money, that is not a necessary, even when I do finally go the Stakeholder Pension will act as a topper-up for treats.Paddle No 21:wave:2

I'm pretty sure you can't take a Legacy pension and work full time. Although I don't think the scheme guides specifically state that. But in the relevant section they just talk about partial retirement so I assume it follows that you can't carry on FT. Even then if your part time earnings plus pension is more than FTE earnings the pension is subject to abatement. I think I read that abatement doesn't apply in Alpha so maybe working full time and taking Alpha will be possible but likely a good few years until anyone is in a position to test it out.
Thanks.
Clearly the OP will have to check his exact situation with the Administrator.
I had heard of abatement - it came up recently in another post but hadn't taken it into account (if applicable).
With regard to P/T or F/T,
I still enjoy my job and am content to continue working full time, but would doing actually be detrimental to me for any reason? If he wishes to continue to work full time, he'll need to have regard to all the points made above concerning the pros and cons.

And good luck with that.....

Although it is still very annoying that MyCSP are painfully slow (3 to 6 months) in dealing with simple queries and corrections to data on their portal.0
