Intrum

Hello,

I'm facing a challenging situation with a debt collection agency called Intrum. They are unresponsive to my attempts at communication.

Here's a brief overview of the situation:

  1. The alleged debt fell off my credit file last year.
  2. I have seen a signed copy of the credit agreement associated with this debt.
  3. My intention is to settle the alleged debt.
  4. I am currently residing in Hungary, not in the UK. I am British but not a UK citizen.

The core issue is their lack of response to my emails. Despite sending four emails in the past two months, I've received no direct replies, only automated emails and phone calls.

This is in spite of my explicit request for written communication.

I've sent another email in an effort to address this, but I'm at a loss about what to do if they continue to ignore me. Phone calls aren't a viable option either, as I end up on hold for extended periods.

My primary concern is regarding potential legal action. If they decide to take this matter to court, will my documented attempts to resolve this issue be sufficient to demonstrate my proactive approach?

Any advice or guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

If you have their bank details just set up a payment.

If your intention is to pay it then I am sure that the letters or their website give you details of how to pay, how to login to their systems and maybe pay there.

If the debt has fallen off your credit record and is statute barred then they can't obtain a CCJ, if they get one without serving you paperwork you can get it overturned for around £300 and because it was statute barred you are fine.

This website will show you how to get free subscriptions to credit reference databases via various means so you keep an eye on that in case they seek a backdoor CCJ.

If you didn't have any intention to pay and it has been six years since the default with no payments or acknowledgement of the debt then it can't be enforced and you can send a special delivery letter confirming same, with a warning to tell them to back off or face legal action.

Even if they got a CCJ and you did not have grounds to fight it then it is unlikely they will pursue you abroad with anything more than nasty emails designed to scare you.  Such a CCJ also has 6 years and they would need to go back to Court to ask for more time, you don't see anyone on here saying that they have been taken to Court for an CCJ enforcement extension do you.  What does that tell you?

If you want to throw money away paying this debt perhaps consider donating the sum to Ukrainian charity or send it to me!!

A great many DCA`s will not accept payments from abroad, or deal with debtors who reside abroad, they mainly deal with UK based debtors only.

This is because to make payment, you will need to pay using IBAN account details, you will have to ask them for those details, and there may be fee`s to pay.

Online payment portals will not work from a non UK IP address.

And don`t be impressed by their fancy website, they were re-branded "intrum" but were once called 1st Credit, and were one of the most diabolical DCA in the game, new name, new management, after FCA intervention.

Thanks for your help everyone! The alleged debt is not statute barred - I tried to make them an offer but they simply ignore me outright so I'm really not sure what to do. I'll just ignore them and let them do their worst - if they want to CCJ it, I'll fight back on the grounds that I have tried to resolve this multiple times and they simply ignore me. I've dealt with a few of these agencies in the past, and these guys are the worst of them all!

CCJ granted in the UK, will not affect you in any other country, only your UK credit file.

Another reason they won`t deal with you abroad, they have no leverage against you.
