Bank statements

Sorry if this is a daft question, I want to get prepared for when I apply for a mortgage.

Do the bank statements need to be paper ones that the bank sends me in the post, or can I print the pdf statements, or will I just have to upload them somewhere?

I have 9 current accounts, will they want statements for all of them or just the one my salary goes in? I tend to receive salary in one and then distribute it to other accounts for savings and bill paying, eg all of the househould bills come out of a joint account so I just transfer money to this every month, should I expect to supply the joint account statements too?

Should I close some of the current accounts? I have accounts that I just transfer money in and out each month for rewards. Would it be easier for the broker if there are fewer current accounts?

PDF's are fine.  So long as they clearly show your are the account holder.  You will need statements from the accounts where your deposit is coming from.  This is so they can check that it is not from money laundering.  I don't think the number of counts will make a difference.

    Kind Regards,

Just be aware that if you have an account with Nationwide eg Flex A/C you can’t download the statements once they’re more than 15 months old. (Not sure about pdf’s though).

    would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

There's definitely no 'a' in 'definitely'.
  • PDFs downloads are fine - I had to email them over to the mortgage broker, they requested statements that went over 12 months in the past, most banks opt out of paper statements and only issue PDFs these days, so mortgage lenders are 100% fine with these :)
  • also, yes, you'd need at least last 3 months statements out of all bank accounts you hold in your name
  • All depends  on the lender and LTV.   When we applied direct to Nationwide, we just had to provide payslips, P60 and was not asked for bank statements at all.

It depends who you apply with. I didn't need any bank statements for one application - it was a little weird!

I asked this in January! Applied for mortgage in March (HSBC via broker) and was not asked for bank statements at all. I supplied payslips and was questioned why I was paid more one month  :D

You main account, ie the one where your salary gets paid into and maybe the account where the deposit is stored.

Go with whatever your mortgage broker asks for
