Halifax mortgage experiences

Options
Hi all,
Very nervous person here as were turned down by Natwest last week as they thought we work too far away from the house we are buying   :/ our mortgage advisor said the underwriter was really rude and dismissive and he's never experienced anything like that before.

Mortgage broker applied to Halifax yesterday. LTV 35%
Great credit scores, no debt except car finance of £100 a month. Husband self employed for 13 years, I'm employed full time. Halifax said they could lend us £250k. We need £100k.

Got AIP yesterday, full application sent in yesterday afternoon.

Just had an email from mortgage broker that Halifax are valuing the house in person on Tuesday.

Couple of questions, is an in person valuation normal?
And does Halifax doing this generally mean the underwriter has agreed everything else pending this valuation?
How long after valuation is the offer?

Not normally nervous but after our experience with Natwest last week I am!  :#

Halifax valued our house in person when we remortgaged to them.

We received the mortgage offer the day afterwards.

    Yes, for a purchase.
    No. Valuation instruction is automatic.

I thought most valuations were in person - I know they used to do a lot of desk top or drive by but think they got a few a bit wrong.
  • Thanks so much everyone so far.
  • Just to give you my experience as it’s been very quick with Halifax. They emailed last week to say my credit report was locked, it wasn’t and they had already done a hard search. My MA emailed them back with the proof on Thursday. Friday afternoon we had our mortgage offer and valuation accepted, so they were quick. Hopefully you will know by the end of the week

I brought a house that was already with halifax they did a desktop one
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Just to update, we've had our offer  :)

Applied on 18th January, surgery done 23rd Jan (this morning) and offer received this afternoon.
    So so happy
  • Survey, not surgery  :D
