lost pension

I paid into a Safeway employees pension for seven years, I left Safeway just after they were taken over by Morrisons and have not had any correspondence from them since 2012. I've tried phoning Morissons several times but just get passed around and nobody seems to have any idea. Anybody had a similar issue?

Does it sound like you have a Defined Benefit pension scheme? Did you get any leaving statement as to how much pension you had already built up when you left? Is it 1967 Section? After some googling, it sounds like it could be Capita or Mercer who are the administrators of this scheme.0

There we go. I was hoping that it would appear on Find Pension contact details. Give Mercer a go. It sounds like you are asking the wrong people.

Who have you spoken to ? It seems that Morrisons pension schemes are administered by Aviva or Mercer, as an older scheme probably Mercer for you.If you have any queries about any previous Morrisons pension schemes which have now closed you can contact the pension administrators via email on morrisonsadmin@mercer.com or telephone 0345 4506 564 between 9.00am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday.
And looking at an ombudsman case from last year it named Mercer as the relevant administrator.

Could it be we had to opt in to the pension scheme do there was no pension. There was a pension but it was your choice to be in it or not.

In my first job, I was invited into the managers office when I turned 25 and was given information about the company's DB pension. I was told I could join or not but it was my choice.1

When I moved jobs in the 90s all we got was the company handbook which mentioned the DB pension and then a letter after 3 months offering the pension. That was your chance to join, you had a few months to decide. You would not be asked again and would not have the option to join until a life changing event, as listed in the handbook, happened and it was down to you to invoke that option, it was not prompted.1
