Looking for recommendations for a washing machine

I'm currently on the hunt for a new washing machine to replace a Zanussi that we have inheritated that is about 22 years old and isn't washing clothes as well as it should.

I'm looking for a washing machine that is fairly quiet, has a load size of 9kg or more and I'm fairly open to brands. My partner is set on a Samsung but I've seen some pretty bad reviews online.

Can anyone recommend a washing machine that you swear by?

Bosch/Siemens (same company, Siemens considered better machines), AEG or John Lewis which are rebadged AEG. Miele if you aren't budget concious.

Another vote for Siemens. Not cheap but a lot less than a Miele and come with a 5 year warranty ( if you register it)
  • I have a Samsung, and been working well for 8 years plus.
To be honest, with washing machines it is better to not be cheap.  The more expensive machines have more weights on them, and have better pumps etc

When I was looking for a new machine a few years ago I set my budget higher than previous times I bought one's. Mainly because previous machines were around £250 and branded as beko. I had 4 of them in total and they all only lasted 2-3 years each. Having them fixed was a no go as engineers said it was cheaper to buy a new one.

I looked at what was in my price range and I came to the conclusion Bosch or Samsung. I knew someone that worked at currys/PC world and asked them do they have any offers on the above makes. She said I wouldn't bother with Samsung they get so many back with problems. She then said bosch is good but if you want the best "get an LG they never come back with problems", which surprised me as I only thought of them making TV's.
So I bought a 9kg one with direct drive, 5 year warranty and a 10 year warranty on the direct drive it seemed the obvious choice.
8 years on the machine is as good as new,  I've had zero issues with it.

I'm not saying don't look at other brands, I just wanted something reliable that could be fixed if it had an issue, would last a good number of years and the give me the best bang for my bucks.

If my budget would have been higher I probably would have gone for a Miele, mainly because my brother has one and it's still going strong 15 years later.

Edit: I also learned how to look after machines a bit better once I bought the LG to give the machine some longevity.
#By keeping the drawer and door open after the wash has finished to dry the insides out, which reduces black mould.
#Putting the washing powder in the drum and not in the drawer, so you don't get a scummed up drawer.
    # no longer using fabric conditioner and using white vinegar instead.
#Every 4-6 weeks emptying out the filter.

I have a Eco bubble just because my son raved how good his was.
My old Hotpoint must be 18 years old was used once daily up until 2 years ago. Never had anything done to it and it's still going strong.
There is nothing I like about the Samsung at all, it let's all the conditioner go long before it gets in the rinse part, and the spin is 1400 bit its the worst I have ever had in any machine you can almost wrong out heavy stuff as it's so wet.
This was almost double the cost to buy to a new Hotpoint at the time... I should have gone for the Hotpoint.

I had a Samsung .... it was awful.... jumped about the kitchen even though it was on a level non slippy floor. The spin was awful.... clothes came out wetter on 1400rpm than they did on my old zanussi on 1000rpm. It simply would not spin  at all if I wanted to spin a couple of handwashed items.  I traded it in after 12 months for a Bosch which didn't cost much more( fewer programs) which is light years ahead.
  • I bought an AEG washer/dryer 4+ years ago. Just out of warranty if went wrong (the drum just kept going round and round and would then stop and then start again but nothing else) forcing me to pay for an expensive repair and protect policy, which I've kept up (the engineer said the heating element had burnt out and it had confused the electronics!)

I've had no further problems but I do find the touch controls annoying as sometimes they are oversensitive and sometimes undersensitive. You are supposed to be able to programme it so do one, or two, extra rinses but I've never been able to get it to work. I don't think that I'd buy another.
