Thanks for the links to Barker & Stonehouse.
I see the extra insurance, for which you paid £249 extra, allows you to have up to three scratches from your cats and dogs. I hope your animals are well behaved!

It is accident insurance so wouldn't be expected to cover gradual events such as fading due to sunlight.
For the avoidance of doubt, the terms of the insurance specifically state:

    WHAT IS NOT COVERED:
Your Emmiera Group Policy Schedule will not cover you for:
    4. Any gradually occurring stain(s) or damage, gradual wear and tear...
    5. Colour loss, fading, sunlight, wind or weather
For a sofa the mind boggles.
Back in the dim and distant past I worked in a shop which sold a mix of goods (inc furniture). I recall a colleague telling me of someone who wanted to complain because the (upholstered) chair they bought wasn't well made - because they'd had it on the patio all summer in all weathers and it was damaged... unfortunately I wasn't privy to the conversation, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if the manager gave at least a partial refund.
I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.
