Can you win on a private Insta account?

I saw a post on SM the other day saying that your Instagram account can't be private if you want to have a chance winning a comp, as they might not be able to tag you - is this true? Has anyone had sucess winning on an Instagram account that is set to private?

I think the issue is with not being able to check and see if someone has entered correctly

Many have to accept your request too.
Some accounts say if you screenshot the evidence at the time of entering and message it to them, they will accept that as an entry, but could you imagine if 10,000 people entered, that's a lot of messages.
