need to buy video or dvd recorder?

We need to buy a new video recorder or dvd recorder, it will be recording for long periods as we use it to record cctv we have at the front. Is it worth getting a video recorder or would it be best to get a dvd recorder, the colour has gone on our video recorder and it drives me mad if we tape a tv program? We don't want to spend much any ideas, preferably with 2 scarts as you can never have to many?
