Job funding in a charity

Thank you, I appreciate the replies, it could well be, sorry nothing really makes sense, we should have appreciated the charity/organisation also has to pay for people off sick on far less then 24 months service as well. I'd even queried it myself if the people off sick are actually temps themselves but then can't see any business supporting medium to long-term indefinite sickness if that were the case but maybe under a charity its different.
My friend has now been given a bit of a complex form and asked to attend a first ever one 2 one but have been told they can now stay until March.0 -
Nowhere near enough information here in the OP to make comment beyond the very general.Unwell2023 said:Hello,
Can someone explain funding in a charity? (in reference to paid work).
How can someone in a supposed 'permanent' much needed position resign and it be said well we don't have funding yet for anyone to take their place.
I'm just curious does the funding come from the public donations? board of Trustees? government? is it like a bid every new financial year but then I don't understand if someone is considered in a permanent/long standing role to begin with where the issue of funding comes in.
Thank you for any insights.
It may be that the Management board and trustees have taken the resignation of that individual as a convenient point to have a review of the natuire, size, scope and grading of that role and won;t appoint until they have completed that
In a Charity / CIO funding for employing someone depends on a whole variety of things, you also seem to be conflating where the money comes from ( public donations / fees for service / Government grants / Grants from other grant makming organisations) and processes and accountability for thast money being spent ( Management and trustees).
without an understanding of what the role is it;s hard to comment further.
Fixed term roles tied to specific grants ( from whatever source ) or related to a pilot / evaluation period of service are quite clear but other roles within a charity it;s very much contextual

Sorry does this mean they could force an unskilled / unwilling person into the role?Marcon said:
I'm not sure what you mean by 'how'. The answer is 'quite easily' if, say, there's a recruitment freeze in place such that anyone who resigns can't be replaced until funding becomes available. It's not just charities who have this sort of problem - public sector bodies regularly put a stop on new hires, and simply have to do the best with whatever they've already got in house.
it could be a reasonable managmeent request for another member of permananet staff to take on some of the duties0 -
It was just a knee jerk reaction to someone saying it was possible. To be clear my friend is not in a permanent role and they don’t want any part of working the front role which probably comes with the same issues as a care work job but are well aware the other temp who does ‘apparently’ want the job can seem unreliable but this is all undone when they themselves make donations through their family/friends and find willing volunteers.EnPointe said:

My friend interviewed last Sept for a ‘contact centre’ role in the Employers words, saying any extension beyond the initial two months was reliant on funding - it wasn’t until starting it then came out it was covering sickness in the CC.
I have tried not to post everything due to this being a public forum and tbh I’m not so sure we know everything anyway which is probably best.
Thanks to the forum for not giving us backlash for knowing the reason covering is sickness - again I can’t see how the Employer would ever have been able to cover this up. My friend is also looking elsewhere. I appreciate no one can help and it’ll be a case of how it pans out.1
