We were discharged 8 years ago, May 2015.

In March 2023 the Bankruptcy Trustee emailed to us that they were finalising the Bankruptcy.  They also said that there was a query about the Unit Trust but they did not give any details about the query.

They have not contacted us since.

Yesterday evening ( 05 01 2024 ) an email came out of the blue from a debt collecting firm, who want to know if  the Unit Trust is still available, the current value and for us to provide any documentation in connection with the Unit Trust.

After 10 months of silence the Bankruptcy Trustee have referred us to a Debt Collector.  Is the Bankruptcy Trustee entitled to put the Unit Trust into the hands of a Debt Collector without giving us any prior notice ?

The Trustee could have just emailed to us for the information.

Would be very grateful for comments.  Thank you.

The Insolvency Service does use Advantis*, and their customer service often seems more typical of a dodgy dca than a government agency.

Is it them? If the Unit Trust  investment existed prior to 2015 then it does fall to the Trustee.

If this has a large value, it does not necessarily mean that you would lose the whole of it and the trustee or their representative should be able to give you some rough figures.

    *They also use Clarke Willmot

Thank you for that, at least we now know where we stand.    What really annoys me is that instead of contacting me directly for the information, a matter of minutes, they chose to put it to a Debt Collector which will reduce our Experian 999 to a lower level after 8 years of ' domestic austerity ' to build it to 999.  Thank you for your info. regards Frank.

There shouldn't be any mark on your credit file

Ignore the score as it's just a made-up number.

    What are you seeing?

It is still 999.  The letter from the Debt Collector is dated 5th Jan 2024.

And does the letter say 'we will put a mark on your credit file'?

If money is owed, it is owed to the Official Receiver's appointees and I would be staggered if they tried anything like that

Credit scores don`t really exist in this country, the number you see is not seen or used by lenders, that number is calculated by the CRA`s in order to sell credit improvement products to those who wish to "improve" their meaningless number even more.

Lenders will credit check you using there own scoring method, that the public are not privy too.

Its credit history that counts, which means no late payments, no defaults, insolvencies etc.

Advantis are just acting on behalf of their client, as they don`t own this debt, so can`t report to your credit file.
