Natwest mortgage

hello
my old mortgage was due to end on the 31st december, i left it till the 18.12 as was expecting other cuts but they didnt come from natwest. at the time i think the best deal was like 4.9 and natwest was 5.4 and i didnt want to go through all the hassle of moving to a new bank.
so i stayed with natwest on the comparison the best deal now is 5.15 with natwest i called them as i was hoping i would move to this new rate.
natwest told me that the best rate to stay with natwest is still 5.4 as its not a remortgage its a switch so is this accurate as its a bit misleading as no sites give you a switch option just remortage new mortgage etc.
im a bit frustrated as its a huge drop of .25% equates to nearly 20 pound a month im contemplating switching now for the better deal of mid 4% and pay the cost of 859 quid and closing my natwest current account also
thanks in advance for any guidnace

The best NatWest rate is a lot less than that for most borrowers. Perhaps as low as 4.86%

Have you taken out a new deal? If so, you are likely to be locked in, unless they allow a cooling off period. If not, and you think rates will continue to drop (they are going down again tomorrow), have a look at their fee free tracker option. Its more expensive, but allows you to switch back off it at any point.0
