Trying to get the cheapest train fare?

Looking to book train travel from Macclesfield - Birmingham 23/2 (arriving about12.30ish) returning 24/2 (arriving in Macclesfield about 19.30ish).
I thought 12 weeks ahead to book was the cheapest which has passed and prices have gotten slightly cheaper. Also been looking on TrainPal and Splitmyfare which seem to be cheapest.
Strangely though changing the leaving and returning times seem to alter the prices of the train times I’d like to get if you people know an easy way of bringing up the cheapest price doing this. Also any suggestions on cheaper methods / train apps.

I've tried loads of train ticket apps/websites in the past but now I just go to https://trainsplit.com/
