I always freeze my apple as 'chunky' pulp and they are perfectly fine. I cook mine with the tiniest amount of water in the microwave, freeze in boxes.
Might defrost one now & mix with mincemeat for a large mincemeat tart. Feeling peckish!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

The best of our foraged apples from the common, quiet lanes, and the canal side, are stacked in plastic mushroom trays in the cold, frost-free garage. They need checking regularly, but keep from October to April. They are of unknown variety, definitely wonky, with blemishes, many had grubs, but they have not been sprayed with chemicals, and they were free.

On the subject of a glut of apples - I have made "apple butter" this year and it is delicious. Stored in jars in my fridge I have used it for baking, on yoghurt or on toast. It's basically slow cooked apples with a little bit of sugar and cinnamon or ginger - no butter in sight7

Make do: yesterday and today my lunch was leftover Christmas veg plus a mince pie!
Mend: I took the clippers to DH's coat! It's probably less than a year old but had bobbled badly and looked a mess. No more!
Minimise: I remembered there was pre-prepared red cabbage in the freezer from last Christmas's cheap supermarket veg. I defrosted it and served it up with Christmas dinner so there's more freezer space and a nice dish that doesn't go with most of our food has been used to good effect.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Firstly, Happy New Year to all!
Is there going to be a new 2025 thread? Or will this one continue?
Whichever, I've been lurking for a while and I'd like to join if I may. NYD being a holiday (as is tomorrow in Scotland) I haven't done anything very housework-y today. So it's only little bits:
Make Do: Used a plastic mesh thing that came into the house bagging lemons to hold some red onions. Also could only light 2 out of 3 candles one a match - so, instead of striking another, I found a straw stalk that had fallen out of the rabbit's cage and lit that off one of the tealights to use instead. (Well, I did say they were little bits!🙃)
Mend: (Trivial but) I trimmed the wicks on the Christmas Candles!
Minimise: Presents under the Christmas tree put away/decanted to eat, gift bags put with Christmas stuff for use next year, boxes etc recycledA budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!
CHALLENGES
2025 Declutter:
1 CONTAINER (box/bag/folder etc) per day; 50/365
1 FROG (minimum) per week; 6/52
WEIGHT I'll start with 25 lbs (though I need to lose more!) and see how it goes...🤔 0/25
2025 NSDs: 15 per MONTH - FEB 4/15; JAN 21/15
2025 Fashion on the Ration: (carried over from 2024) 10+66 = 76
2025 Make Do, Mend & Minimise No target, just remember to report!

There's still lots of room on this thread so perhaps the title can be amended?
Make do: from the other day: rescued our second compost bin which had blown down the lane in the gales, and secured it using some stones that had been stacked near our our house on said lane. I think they must have been from someone's long-ago rockery. I've also picked up a free bag of coffee grounds from the garden centre cafe: my plants will be hyper as I add them to the compost.
Mend: glued together a salt deodorant that I'd dropped and broken. Also used a crochet hook to draw through some loops of thread that had extricated themselves from a cheap and cheerful jumper. It's only the glittery threads. I have no idea how they do it.
Minimise: took some spent batteries to recycle yesterday.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I've just amended the title to 2025 as per @Cherryfudge's suggestion.
Welcome @basketcase and also to anyone else who would like to join us in our efforts at MMM'ing.
Nothing to report here at the moment, I'm still in holiday mode!Be kind to others and to yourself too.9 -
Thanks @YorksLass, I like this thread and it's nice to have continuity.
No grand plans for MMMing today but I need to do something as pre-Christmas searching for things that weren't in the loft has unearthed all sorts of dust gatherers in the bedrooms and for some reason these haven't put themselves away or migrated to the recycling.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Personally I blame the hound for ferreting everything out and just leaving it there! However just might be me....
