I have £250 to spend and I'd really like a laptop with XP rather than Vista. I have wireless Sky broadband, I'd use it mostly for email, word documents, and playing Football Manager!?! Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

If you don't want the latest and greatest have a look at the one off specials on https://www.sterlingxs.co.uk All second hand, but SterlingXS have top notch service, bought my daughter a thinkpad T23 from them last summer, had a hard drive failure 88 days into the 90 day warranty, all it took was a single email describing the problem and a replacement was delivered next morning! Contrast that to a major manufacturer who took 3 months and threat of legal action to fix the problems they caused by telling me to install an incompatible bios upgrade on my laptop!0

How does this one sound?

I know its £300 and has Vista but I can take Vista off and put XP on if I have to. I'd get the club points too. At an absolute stretch due to the generosity of Santa I can go to £350 but would much rather not!?! Whats the general opinion of this laptop?

okay, just joined this forum just to reply to this thread. You say you could strech to 350 but you'd rather not. This laptop I purchased recently sounds exactly like what your after. I needed it to keep up with studies while being abroad. My final system ended up like this:
AMD® Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL60
2048 MB 667MHz Dual-Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2x 1024 MB)
ATI Radeon® Xpress 1150 HyperMemory (integrated)
120GB (5400rpm) SATA Hard Drive
Genuine Windows® XP Professional - English
Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive including Software
Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive including Software
Base Warranty - 1 Year Business Hardware Support
15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display
After reading the Dell Vostro 1000 reviews I went and upgraded the battary from the standard 4 cell to the 6 cell. (which cost an additional 11 quid)
Total Price - £ 363.08
Go through quidco and you'll save around 15 quid. Well worth it for a dual core running at 2.0ghz in my opinion. This offer is due to expire on wednesday though so be quick.

you should be able to find the best current vostro deal at dmxdimension.com. Just note the e-value code and the prefix to enter when you are on dell's website.0

if you search for N1210005 fin the search box on dell.co.uk it should come up (and if u want no upgrades the total price is 351) by the way... some of the upgrades seem cheaper, the true life screen for example at 17 quid, and the hdd upgrade at 23 quid.
By the way.. I ordered the system outlined in the previous thread and then cancelled (quidco still tracked and later on validated) and when I duplicated the order it has validated again. I know.. chances of me getting 30 quid on quidco are very slim.. but one can be hopeful. lol
