  • i hadn’t even thought of leaving pillowcases grubby @foxgloves 😱😱.   Very good point.  I’m going to try the double cleansing and see how it goes and definitely go for the earlier time.   I think it’s a really good idea.
Every day is definitely a school day on here @jwil.  I learn something most days either from someone posting on here or by reading other people’s diaries.   I’m definitely a make up person although not loads so really should create a routine that means it’s removed every evening.

I too am learning loads. I also wear makeup, although not much, and I've usually rubbed most of it off by the end of the day anyway 🙄 But both my morning and evening routines merely consist of a quick swipe with a wet flannel and some cheap moisturiser 😂
  • That’s interesting @Cheery_Daff. I used to lose most of my makeup during the day but I discovered primer and it’s changed it loads.  It was a small tube within a gift set someone gave me (trying to tell me something maybe🤣🤣) and it’s made a big difference to the staying power and look of my make up.  I’m trying to simplify things generally but that has really been beneficial.
I’ve got three more days off work and tomorrow am going to re-trawl through all my beauty stuff to see what’s there, what I can use and what I will never use (in which case they go to my sis in law to try if she wants them).
So interesting hearing all your routines.

I don't often wear makeup but I cleanse morning and after work. Use an spf moisturiser in the daytime and put on a night cream in the evening. Use a peel twice a week

My most important step is my neck cream & night cream~~ when I remember!

  • Neck creams are an interesting one @beanielou.  Do you use an actual neck cream product or just your normal moisturiser?
I’m not very good on the SPF @Florafauna and that’s one of the things I want to address this year.  I’m not a sitting in the sun person but obviously there is exposure in just walking around in it.   I’m thinking maybe tinted moisturiser with SPF and ditch the foundation.   Anyone do this?  Any recommendations?
I do use a self tan on the rest of me as I don’t sunbathe and like to have a tiny bit of colour.  I use Bondi Sa*ds Fair which is under £10 for a decent size and (you will see I am not a slave to it 🤣) lasts me all summer. It is very light when the tan develops but I am very Celtic in colouring - pale skin, blue eyes and red brown hair (when I remember my natural colour 🤣).   The self tan makes me look generally as it I occasionally see daylight.
Sometimes I use that on my face to get a little colour and that seems to work okay.

  • The Olay one I mentioned before is SPF15 and I love that moisturiser, easy on, not pricey, no fussy scents or other potential skin irritants

I don't use a night cream on neck as I personally reckon there's not ever a product good enough to compensate for dragging a delicate skin area on a daily basis
(though I'm sure @beanielou has a beautiful, luxurious neck)

But from a mse point of view, look at the products you use and be honest with yourself about what is actually likely helpful and what is just culturally expected/advertised as if it's normal

Obviously we all have different lives and upbringings and insecurities, but for me, I very strongly feel that it's not shameful for a woman to have survived into her 40s/50s/60s/70s/80s/90s (and in some cases 100s!) and I find it genuinely offensive that we're told to try to look otherwise by companies that are literally just a societal cabal to make money for them, not to improve the quality of life for us

I don't seem to be able to post on your diary without banging on, apologies again 😂❤

I'm sorry for your loss LWP. As my dad says, aging sucks but all the other options are worse.  The cultural media seem to forget that bit.

I don't use an SPF unless I'm out in the middle of the day in summer - I stay out of the sun between about 11-4 as much as possible as I'm very pale and burn in minutes.  I don't seem to be aging any worse than friends and colleagues, so I suspect this is just another thing that is more about working with your own genetics than an absolute.  I do use an eye cream (the wellie shop P&P one) and have for years, so that may have helped with the crow's feet.  And I take a supplement with anthocyanins as having tried one, I noticed that after coming off it I seemed to get thread veins beginning which reduced or went altogether when I started it up again.

I also have very dry skin and it's really sensitive so for me part of the question is figuring out how to leave it well alone.  I don't think it would handle double cleansing, for example - I only wear mascara, so I use a milk cleanser, tone with rosewater, and moisturise face and neck with a cream I make up myself but which includes rose and frankincense.  I have used frankincense for years ever since trying the NYR version so can't be sure of its effects on aging but I do think it helps heal redness and spots.  Unfortunately it's not really a very sustainable option at the moment so I've been looking for a native or more easily cultivated equivalent - I was thinking of trying the Highland Soaps bog myrtle cream, so if anybody has feedback on that, please do tell!
