Root canal and crown

Hi,
I recently had very bad tooth pain and went to a private dentist to have it looked at. The dentist suggested a root canal for one of molars as there was infection under the onlay that was put on a few years ago. He is charging me the following:
Appointment 2
General Dental Hygiene appointment £98.00
Appointment 3
Investigation Of Tooth £300.00
Root canal treatment with General dentist - Any tooth £300.00
Appointment 4
Root canal treatment with General dentist - Any tooth £395.00
Appointment 5 Crown Imps & Prep stage LL6 £447.50
Appointment 6 Onlay/Crown fitting £447.50
I'm reaching out to the forum to get your opinions on whether these charges seem reasonable for private dental treatment. Also, are there any options for the crown in terms of material which would reduce costs.
Thanks in advance

I don’t really understand the charges but root canal treatment is expensive. Where are you though? If you are in London it will probably be more than in many other parts of the country. Where is your costings is the charge for the crown itself?
I would say though that the root canal treatment charges are not out of the ordinary. You might find somewhere cheaper but equally you could pay a lot more. The investigation sounds a lot but it depends what it involves. If the £471.50 x 2 includes the cost of the crown itself that is not exceptional. The hygienist charge isn’t bad if you are in London or the south east. Elsewhere it might be a bit on the high side but it depends on how long the session is.0 -
I paid a lot of money for root canal work on a molar which failed a couple of years later with a big abcess under the tooth which had to be removed. I would ask your dentist about the success rate and longevity of the work as my understanding is that it's not an uncommon thing for the work to fail.I later had an implant into the gap. I wish I'd just had the original tooth removed and the implant and saved myself the waste of money on the root canal treatment. I paid about £2K for the implant with a Swarovski crown, but a porcelain one would be cheaper.Make £2025 in 2025

One of my teeth cracked and part of a tooth broke off .they cost £50 for an emergency check, £100 for a temp composite filling (white stuff), will pay a total £800 for the resulting crown.
this in the north west.
they numbers you gave seem close ..
can’t advise on the material to use though0 -
What are the offering you? A white or silver crown?
I have both next to each other. White was done first and the silver one after a the next tooth crack through strees from a filling. Much prefer the silver one. It feels nicer and sits far better with no trapping of food which I experienced with the white one.
Dentist told me that silver ones (cheaper on nhs) often experience less issues with food getting trapped. No idea why. Perhaps the material is easier to work with when moulding.0
