Zero Hours Contract Income Tax

Hiya All,

I just wanted to ask a question about zero Hours Contract and how the Income Tax is Calculated on it.

Recently in my workplace the ownership has changed but in terms of Business name everything is the same.

The workers were given a Zero Hours Contract and most of them they are doing around 40 to 47 Hours a week.

This is going on since Mid November.

One of them showed me the payslip and I was surprised that the Income Tax was 0.00 and only the NI Contribution were deducted.

This happened to quiet fre people in my work place and these people are doing 40 to 48 hours per week.

Could you kindly explain this issue ? Do you think that this is a problem with the employer and their accountant ?

Could be a few different reasons why this has happened, employer may be the problem.  Or accountant.  Or HMRC.

But tax deducted (or not deducted) during the year is only part of the picture.  HMRC will review things after the end of the tax year and ultimately the correct tax will have to be paid, even if at a later date.

Have you checked your Personal Tax Account as I suspect that will show you have a new employee now.
  • Hiya I checked the Hmrc App which I have and it is not showing that I am in employment since October ( when owners changed ). But I have the proof wage slips in which is written hoe much I have worked and how much Tax was took ( I am talking about my tax circumstance).

What shall I do ? Contact Hmrc and let them know?

Keep those pay slips very safe.
Contact the HMRC helpline to ask why your pay is not being recorded on your tax account.  0300 200 3300
They will take it from there.  It looks like you have a dodgy employer so might be worth looking for another job as once HMRC get their teeth stuck in it could rapidly go downhill.
