LET'S TALK

TURKEYS !!!

I'll start.

Just about to stuff mine (half past midnight) because it needs to be in the oven for about 8am for a 2:30 pm serving.

YES it's a BIG one.

10 kilograms - 22 pounds in "old money"

It's a fresh one from Sainsburys that should have cost £37.78

BUT

because I was hovering around the last 7 that were still on the shelves at 17:00 Chrismas Eve (shop shut at 18:00) in true MSE style, I grabbed 2 that had just been reduced to £8.00
One will go in the freezer for Easter.

So ! In a few minutes I'll be inserting, coating, stuffing and wrapping the BEAST with some lemons, butter, sausage meat and streaky bacon.

Best of luck with yours, whatever your eating.

OH! Forgot to say. How many of us for dinner ??? Just the 2 of us. :rotfl:
Well there is a dog and a cat that will get some bits, but it's cold turkey with pickles and chips on Boxing Day and any left by Saturday or Sunday will end up in a curry that we will probably share with the neighbours on New Years Eve.
Anyway Merry Xmas
Quoia

Sorry to "rain on your parade" but ASDA's SPROUTS (well my local anyway) were selling at just 5p a 500g bag.

Just watching Finding Nemo having had one of the best Christmas dinners that I can remember. All the veg (purple sprouting, brussels, cauliflower, baby Chantenay carrots, parsnips, roasted and mashed and new potatoes, freshley shelled peas, spinach) were done to perfection, yorkshire pud fantastic and the turkey (the BEAST - took an hour to wash and stuff and butter up etc.) was tender, moist and very tasty. Mind you I did cook it on a bed of onions, carrots and apples. YUMMY !

Not forgetting the 3 bottles of Champagne we've drank. Well 2 down 1 to go.

Just the washing up and I can relax for a few hours.

    No, Somefield actually.
Bought it about 18 months ago. They had a half-price offer on at the time reducing some £19.99 Champers to £9.99.

As it happened one particular store had been selling it at £9.99 for a few weeks before this and somehow or other had it on the shelves at just £4.99.
Better still their 5% discount for 6 bottles or more calculated it on the full price (of £19.99) and knocked another £1 a bottle off.
Having bought a dozen at this price (basically £3.99) I decided I couldn't leave the shelves with quite so many bottles on them so went back for some more.
I bought another 30 odd bottles and better still, when I'd got home I checked the receipt and found the cashier had cocked up scanning them somehow and I'd only paid for about 20 or so, getting 10 or 12 bottles for free.
I must admit it sounded "cheap" when she told me the amount but my mind was elsewhere and I just entered my credit card pin and left.

So overall I'd got about 44 bottles for about £132 - just £3 a bottle.
And it's not bad stuff either !
Just need to find another similar offer since I think we are down to the last dozen bottles now :(

Its amazing how it disappears...:o Good story and a reminder that you usually regret the ones you don't buy..
