Final Pay

Options
Hello all! So I started working with a company on the 1st August 2022. We are paid 1 month in arrears with pay day falling on the 15th of every month. I am set to leave the company on the 12th January 2024 and am being told that I will only receive the pay for 1st - 12th January 2024 on the 15th February 2024. When I received my first pay check, I only got paid the 4 weeks pay rather than 6 so assumed that the 2 weeks I worked extra will be paid back at the end of my employment? I’m being told this is not the case.

As I understand it your were/will be paid as follows:
15th Sep for August work, 15th Oct for Sept work, 15th Nov for Oct, 15th Dec for Nov, 15th Jan for Dec and 15th Feb for the part month Jan. If that is so it's correct, if not when were you paid and does the payslip detail the periods covered?

So on 15 Sept 22 you were paid for Aug 22, on 15 Oct 22 you were paid for Sept 22 and so on.  On 15 Jan 24 you will be paid for Dec 23 and on 15 Feb 24 you will be paid for the 12 days in Jan 24.  That makes sense to me.

Don't forget that they will also have to pay you for any overtime and unused holidays.

If you started work on 1 August 2022 and were paid on 15 August 2022 why would you expect to be paid for 6 weeks - unless you mean that your first pay was received on 15 September 2022?

When is your employer running their December 2023 payroll?

Thanks for clarifying. Sounds like a conversation with your employer is the next step!

Same as usual, the 15th December. So we’ve been paid already in December but for November 23

I have raised it today but they are adamant that I should not see a full months pay in February. Only the 1-12th earned from January. And not the additional 2 weeks which seem to have disappeared from when I worked 6 weeks at the beginning of my employment.

As several people have pointed out that your employer is correct try this:
You will have worked for 5 complete months and 1 part month and you will have been paid 6 times, 5 for full months and 1 part month.
I think perhaps the thing that's tripping you up is that you will get your last pay a month after you leave.
