I was a Secret Seven fan. I also enjoyed Mr Pinkwhistle's Party which was just simple silliness. The Little House books by Laura Ingles Wilder captivated me alongside watching the tv series. Flambards was also a great series of books and I think it was a tv series too.

Suffolksue - I'm not familiar with that series, but the author's name jumped out at me - and (I've had to look it up), but I think I've probably come across her name in show jumping coverage. How different those books might have seemed to your 'home town' - how fab you had a good library - and good, encouraging librarians like Matilda?
Blackcats - l liked Secret 7, and certainly watching the TV series of 'Little House on the Prairie' (I've read the books later in life). And Flambards was definitely a TV series - but I thought it was erm…. for adults? A bit like the (original) Onedin Line.
I do actually still like children's fiction. Far more likely to curl up with a kid's book than adult fiction. But alas, reading has fallen by the wayside for me.

Showing my age I haven't read a few of the secret seven & famous five books because by then I was too old.

I remember the show jumper Pat Smythe from when I was a child. Probably because I desperately wanted a pony - I never did get one though!

I don't know why I recognise the name, because although i'm vintage, she was competing a little before my time….. but tbf, showjumping and the horse of the year show were televised alot more back in the day, so perhaps she was interviewed or commentating or something. I always remember the bank at Hickstead… 😱

Good Evening MFW'rs
I love hearing all your book tales - and fancy some of us connecting with George 😁 I was mostly in trousers as a kiddo, and rarely in a skirt, much to my grandmother's annoyance - she said she couldn't introduce me to any of her friends and neighbours, as they'd think I was a boy! Jury's out as to whether she had any friends….. 🤣
So tea was bean soup - it's a recipe from the vegetarian student cook book, but I added in extra veg, used RKB's rather than cannellini beans and put a handful of pasta in. I cooked it in the PrC, and it was all eaten. The spotty pudding cooked beautifully in the SC. I think it was on for about 5 hrs in the end, but it was lovely and light. I made some custard - I was inspired by school days puds, after all, lashings of custard is de rigeur! I used sultanas in my pudding as they were what I had, and I don't actually like currants very much. Soup&pud days are working well, I don't seem to do as well with salad&fruit (or equivalent) in the summer, but for the mo. It's working and encouraging me to use up what we've got. I finished off the bag of frozen mixed veg tonight and the last sweet potato.
I can't think of anything else MSE that I've achieved today.
