Veg Peelings - can you freeze?

Hi

Can you tell me whether you can freeze veg peelings to use later on. I know that you can freeze veg soup but sometimes you haven't the time to make it straight away.

  • Hi

I can't answer your question but any chance you can give me the recipe for your Veg soup.

Never used veg peelings for anything but rubbish before.

    Thanks

  • I always freeze mine, they sometimes come out a bit watery but as i'm either using them for stock or soup it doesn't matter to me.

    Hi again

I've never made veg peeling soup yet but I thought I'd give it a try. Normally I just throw a stock cube and what I've got in the fridge and a few dried herbs and then hope for the best then whizz it with the hand blender so I'm working on the theory that you just do the same with the peelings it should work. It just seems such a waste to throw them away.

I heard one of the tv chefs say he always uses veg peeling for making stock. I expect the slow cooker could come in handy for this one as you could just leave it to cook on its own. I keep forgetting to do it and just bung the peelings on the compost.

I have just started saving my veg peelings in my freezer 'soup box' to make into soup once the box is full.

Potato peelings make up the bulk of them but once my soup is liquidised you would never know and my soup costs next to nothing - left overs, stock, herbs, spices and lentils is usually it. Lunch at work for free!

I always liquidise my soups now as my left overs could include pasta, bread, potato, other veg etc. Makes it easier to drink out of a soup flask as well.

    Hope this helps!
