I found this which might shed light on what they might require from you?

Good luck, I hope it all works out.. While not exactly the same, my sister was dismissed from a school as a TA for gross misconduct because she made an offhand comment which other staff thought was inappropriate around teenagers.
She explained to the new employer what happened honestly and openly and they still hired her as a TA in a new school. She hasn't had trouble getting school work since.

Thank you for that! I'm glad it all worked out well with your sister :)

The OP has talked about banking rather than insurance and so won't be working on Solvency II.

As a graduate scheme/one step up from entry level person the general rules on FS companies ensuring all employees are fit and proper are more relevant than specific rules around certain capital modelling requirements.

It's possible OP's former employer was talking about SYSC rather than SUP - see here.
It sounds as though he wasn't working in a controlled function before, and his name didn't appear on the FCA Register. Given that his former employer appears to be an authorised firm, it can't avoid giving truthful regulated references in certain circumstances. But so long as OP doesn't apply for such a role, it appears to have said it'll give a neutral reference.
  • Hi everyone, thank you for all your insights. I had recently received a graduate job offer from one of the big 4 banks for an actuarial positions. This is my absolute dream job and I am so happy to have received this offer. However, I am still nervous and unsettled.

During the application process, there were no questions about my previous roles or reasons for leaving any positions. I was not even asked for my CV. Therefore, I did not have the chance to disclose that I was previously dismissed from a role. The company will start to do vetting checks 4-5 months before the starting date in September 2024. I am concerned that my dismissal will be flagged up from my previous company's reference without me getting a chance to disclose it.

Therefore, please could I have some advice on whether or not you think I should contact them and disclose it for honesty and transparency's sake. Do you think there is any chance that they will still give me the offer?

    Thank you

    How can we possibly know?

In your position, I'd apply for other jobs without indicating that you hope to be moving on next autumn. Then you'll have a recent employer reference you can hopefully rely on.

You could ask about the process: who's asked what etc. You could 'fess up about why you're asking: at least then you won't spend potentially 9 months worrying, only to be turned down.

  • I know it doesnt help much but you are not the only person to have done this OP.

As one of the people responsible for investigating these 'incidents' you would be amazed at how often this happens and its never been intentional malicious, just as you say 'errors of judgement'. (were talking manager and exec levels here btw).

The company does have a responsibility to protect itself though too and not open themselves up to massive fines should anyone who also uses your own computer/email cause a breach. Different comapnies will take different responses or actions.

    Best of luck moving forward
