New HMRC calculator/app for help with topping up NI contributions

Hi everyone, I read a while ago somewhere that HMRC was working on a new tool, e.g an app or online calculator or similar, for helping people who are not sure about whether they should be topping up missing years, but who still cannot get through on the phone to the Future Pension Centre. Does anyone know if this is still in development? I can't find any news about it anywhere now.

Originally planned for this year but delayed as with all government projects and the latest quote from ML was for next year.maninholland said:Hi everyone, I read a while ago somewhere that HMRC was working on a new tool, e.g an app or online calculator or similar, for helping people who are not sure about whether they should be topping up missing years, but who still cannot get through on the phone to the Future Pension Centre. Thanks for your reply. And with the likelihood of a new govt, I don't imagine that this will be an enormous priority going forward

Showing in the "Latest news and updates" section of my on line account
You can soon check if you can make voluntary National Insurance contributions, and pay using the online service
You will soon be able to use your Personal Tax account to check if you can make voluntary National Insurance contributions. You will also be able to approve a payment through your online bank account using the online service.

I really hope that’s true that you would be able to pay these online!0

I was really surprised how easy the future pension service was to deal with. I sorted my sons last year in minutes on the phone & got the code & then paid HMRC in a few more minutes. But that was only days before the current proverbial hit the fan, so hopefully it may soon get back to that.

I thought you can already pay onlinebut require the "magic" 18-digit number to enable you to do that.GSP said:I really hope that’s true that you would be able to pay these online!
I paid an additional year about 3 years ago, but still have 4 more years to make up my full SP which has to be done in the next few years now.
The process 3 years ago feels very distant. I remember thinking it was all a bit drawn out, I rang numbers I should not have, or did not need to.
I do have however some details scribbled down at the time which I believe include an 18 digit unique figure.
Can I use this same unique figure again, or was it just valid at that time for that 1 year?

You will need a new number relevant to the amount you are going to pay (the amount is part of the number). HMRC will give you that, assuming you need to pay before the shiny new system goes live, lol..
Have a look at Pay voluntary Class 3 National Insurance: Overview - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk), or the similar page for Class 2 if appropriate.0 -
Thanks. Has there been any suggestion when it might actually go live?pinnks said:You will need a new number relevant to the amount you are going to pay (the amount is part of the number). HMRC will give you that, assuming you need to pay before the shiny new system goes live, lol..

The number references the years you want to pay & avoids you paying years which will not help, which used to be a problem. I believe that is why they now do it this way. Always check it with the pension service first in other words.
