Effective date for council tax band increase

I moved into a new property with a council tax improvement indicator at the start of August. As a result of a large extension I was expecting the band to increase to a similar level to other properties in the street. Sure enough I've received a letter from the VOA that the band has indeed been increased by one notch, and the letter has the effective date of the change as Mid-November.
My local council have now written with a revised bill based on the new band. But they've just replaced the bill from my move in date in August rather than what I was expecting which was the band changing from the effective date of November but August to November still based on lower old band. It's worth a couple hundred pounds so worth fixing, if it is indeed wrong. Is the council right or wrong to have backdated to when i moved in rather than the effective date of the change from the VOA?

I would check the amounts asked for and whether you are paying on a 10 month or 12 month basis. From August to Mid November should be charged at the lower band (x) and from Mid November to 31 March 2024 (y) should be charged at the higher band. So your total bill from moving in should be "x days divided by 365, times the annual amount for lower band plus y days divided by 365, times the annual amount for the higher band". If you became the owner prior to the moving in date then these days should be added to x.
If you are paying on a 10 month basis, your monthly figure will be high.as you are cramming 8 months of CT into 6 monthly payments. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1
