Applying for different positions

Options
I applied for a job at a company in a city near me. I am still waiting to hear back. They have also put an advert up for the same job in another local town. Should I apply for this too. It's the same job but in a slightly different area. It is probably the same hiring manager. Thanks for your thoughts

  • Did they give you any indication of when you would hear about the first job?

How long ago did you apply for the first job?  Are you waiting to hear the result of an interview for that job or waiting to hear if you have an interview?

Phone and ask if you could be considered for both areas, or ask if you'd need to submit a separate application.

Why do you think its the same hiring manager?

Years ago I applied for a "Technical Claims Handler" for two roles in the same company but in different departments and different sites. I was fortunate and interviewed and was offered both but when one heard the other had offered they increased the money by 10% so wasn't hard to decide which one to pick. I heard afterwards that the other department were very stroppy about being out bid as they were already at the top of their budget and felt they shouldn't have done it. My department just responded that they were very happy with their new hire.

I'm a big fan of actually talking to people in the hiring process not just sending emails or filling in forms. If you cannot get through to them though then personally I'd apply but maybe mention in the covering letter that you've applied for the same role at a different branch and are agnostic to which site you work from.
