Yeah this looks like a scam unfortunately, Rodney is very cute though and I'm sure there will be no hard feelings!!

I've had a few replies to posts already with basically that exact wording and they have been from fake accounts just set up with no followers etc. so sorry to say, but it sounds like a scam.

It seems like almost every post on Facebook gets these replies now.

Thanks guys - and for the kind comment re Rodney. I've mentioned it on the competition post and will report it to FB. I've not been doing many social media comps for a while. Thought I'd try a few for the advents. Oh well. I'll carry on doggedly.

I get quite a few of these and always untag myself then report them. I also hide their comment but not sure if that just hides it from me or everyone.

I just wish facebook would take notice but they just send back that it doesn't go against their community standards. I did get one back saying that I could ask for a review from the Oversight Board which I have done but I doubt it will get looked at as the last one I did didn't get looked at but it's worth a try. I did mention that they need to do more to protect users and businesses from these scammers.

@EnglishWelshie thank you for saying it soooooo well. I have the same experience of reporting stuff like this to Facebook. I wish there was something that we could do. I mean, they wouldn't keep doing it, if nobody got caught.

I've often wondered, as FB refuses to do anything to protect their users, there must be 'the best' way to respond. If we, as in MSE, could agree the best system, perhaps we could do that every time and gradually spread the word to minimalize the effectiveness of these scams.

I also don't know why the police don't seem to take these scams seriously. Even if FB won't do anything, there should be a simple reporting system for scams like this, where the police can intervene, get FB to take scam sites/posts down, or something.

@Blulu not sure what we could do except for keep reporting. I choose scam and then spam. I used to post scammer gifs on their pages but then it got me thinking what if they reported me it would most likey be me who gets a ban and it's not worth it.

This is what I posted on their oversight appeals board but even that isn't guaranteed to be looked at as my last 2 weren't

This person along with many others changes their name to match business accounts then posts on peoples comments telling them that they have won and to follow a link to put in bank details where they will take money from people. They then set up direct debit accounts to rip people off. Facebook is rife with accounts like this and when reported they do nothing at all about them and just let them carry on scamming people. Facebook need to do a lot more to protect members of the public. They should also give users the option to remove the comments from their posts when on facebook pages. All we can do is remove their tag and hide the comment or block them which doesn't help other users who can still see their posts. They should also remove these scammers and do more to check reports using a real person rather than leave it to a bot. This is also putting off a lot of businesses as all these comments on their posts doesn't help them at all if a customer clicks on a dodgy link and is then scammed out of money because they are the ones having to deal with upset and angry customers.

Would you place an advert in national/international papers giving your details and giving details of particular competitions you have entered? Effectively that is what you are doing when you publicly comment, tag, like etc on social media posts except it's potentially to a much wider audience who are far more likely and easily going to misuse your information
