    This is the sort of nonsense that my parents seem to think - "there's no value in pensions".

    Typical pension arrangements are very different from in the past.  The money you/your employer sets aside/invests isn't touchable by you, your employer, or the pension platform provider.  

    Withdrawing out of some completely misunderstood minute element of risk would be a mistake in the extreme.
