Lowell Letter

Good afternoon all,
I've recently had a text off Lowell saying they want to contact me, calling up but giving them not even my name the lady couldn't tell me what they wanted to talk about (obviously.) I just wanted to know what Lowells was.
fast forward to 3 days ago, I've received a letter (to my new address that I've lived in for the past year no less!) from Lowells, apparently I have a debt from Orange, I've not even been with Orange for over a decade. Never the less, my question to you all who are better versed with these kind of things than myself....Do I just call them citing statute law?

Regards,
Nomad

  • I think all these debt companies are feeling the pinch of the cost of living crisis and are resurrecting dead and buried debts for another outing.

This week I've too had letters from another firm regrading 2 debts that were statute barred a decade ago. I've also noticed recently that I've been receiving missed calls from Lowell on my old landline number which I never use now but my router logs incoming calls and notifies me.

I've been "debt free" for a number of years now and there is nothing bad on my credit files apart from 2 satisfied debts which are due to drop off next year.
  • Just put Lowell in search on this forum and you will see you are one of hundreds maybe thousands of people who have received letters from Lowell about unenforceable or non existent debts.

You should ignore them, under no circumstances phone or text them, block their number and just sit back.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

Lowell are a company that buys bad debts then tries to collect on them.

We advise to ignore texts, emails, phone calls on the basis that if it is important they'll write

We do not suggest that anyone should phone them except in some limited circumstances.

If you get a letter, you should reply with a prove-it letter

If their information reveals it to be statute barred then send a statute barred letter

All standard letters are in the sticky threads.

It sounds like you are at the end of the process now
  • Thank you for all of your responses, I'll reply with the prove it letter as I've been contacted via post.
  • I’ve received a letter from Lowell Portfolio I Ltd  that they have bought a debt from Sky tv and that I owe them £60 ( I did have sky and I did return the box back ) I left sky nearly 4 years ago … is this something I should be concerned about?

    No

My comments from a year ago still apply, though in your case I would add

They are not likely to put much effort in on a £60 debt, and neither should you

I think I would ignore everything short of a formal preaction letter. I doubt you would get one but it would come from Overdales and have a 30-day reply period.

You could get involved in disputing the debt, prove-it etc but it just will encourage them
