I work split shifts,I dislike my afternoon shift.i told my employer what notice do I have to give either to leave or go to working morning shift only.
they said one month's,they said it verbally, I can't find my contract.
I went for a few job interviews lately one of them said they could offer me an afternoon shift.I said yes. they said they would confirm it today by email and I have to say yes or no immediately.
so if I get the email and I write a letter to boss today,1st December, what exactly do I put as my end date ,if I have to give a month's notice
and what if boss goes nasty and takes ages to reply or says sorry you have to resign completely, which I don't want to do.just want to drop the afternoon shift
I need to give new job if successful a reply today with a start date and definite confirmation I can actually work for them in afternoon.

Christians Against Poverty solved my debt problem, when all other debt charities failed. Give them a call !! ( You don't have to be a Christian ! )

Putting in notice means you're quitting your job. It doesn't mean forcing your employer to change your shifts. Like I can't say "I don't like Monday's, I'm putting my notice in to work 4 days a week". You work the shifts stated in the contract or as agreed. You can talk to your boss about changing shifts but they have no obligation to comply and little you can do other than resign if you don't like it.Also, you dislike your afternoon shift so you found a second job with an afternoon shift? What I think you mean is that you found a higher paid afternoon gig and you want to moonlight. Check your contract, it wouldn't surprise me if it says you need to tell your employer if you get a second job otherwise you'll get fired from both if found out.0

If there is a contractual agreement for a month's notice then that is what you need to give. In the absence of an agreement for more an employee only has to give one week's notice regardless of how long they have been employed.stu12345_2 said:I work split shifts,I dislike my afternoon shift.i told my employer what notice do I have to give either to leave or go to working morning shift only.

Technically, notice begins the day after it is issued. "A month's" is never clear cut as months vary between 28 and 31 days! So some mutual agreement is needed as to exactly when you finish.
However, be careful as once you issue notice the employer is not obliged to let you withdraw it. Obviously if your bottom line is that they let you change shifts or you leave then so be it, but I would suggest an informal discussion first to see if anything can be resolved.

Don't rely on what other people do as confirmation that if you do the same it will be OK.stu12345_2 said:
I can work for another company as it is in a different line of business as my current employer.
my other work mate does that already., he also has a weekend job since he started. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
If you did hand in a letter withdrawing your labour from Fridays and your letter was dated and delivered on 1 December, I would expect your last day under the original arrangement to end on 1 January 2024.0
