Account on credit file

Please bear with me if it's a silly question, I've finally ploughed my way through my credit reports and got repayment plans set up with nearly all of the debt management companies however there's one showing with Moorcroft as an open account with them, but when speaking with them to try and locate it, the only open account they can find has a balance nearly double that.

I have no idea what it is other than a telecomms account, I have no doubt it's a genuine debt of mine but I haven't the foggiest who it would have been with originally to try and ask them, either. Is there anything else I can try that I haven't thought of yet?

If they don't know what it's for how can you know it's your debt?  It may mean that this is unenforceable or it may mean that the particular individual you were talking to didn't know what button to click on the computer.  Moorcroft should have information to say where they got the debt so you may want to submit a subject access request to see what they have for you.  If that doesn't enlighten you or them then I'd be tempted to send them a "prove it" letter.

  • Sorry I don't think I worded that very well  :/

The account with Moorcroft that they can find, I have all of the details for that, which phone company, etc. That is all fine and will be repaid. This is for just under £120.

It's the rogue one on my credit report for £60 which is also a telecomms account I'm trying to track down where it is at the moment, passing my checks for my new job relies on being able to show them I've got arrangements for all of my debts and this is the only one I won't have something set up for by the end of the day. Moorcroft say the one for £120 is the only open account they hold but the amounts are so different.

I don't doubt it's mine, I messed up and defaulted nearly every account imaginable a few years back, but I need to get it paid.

  • Just wanted to update - I spoke to o2 after managing to find an old email with a matching account number - it was a device plan and airtime owed sent separately to Moorcroft. The one showing on my credit report is under the account number for the device plan, however Moorcroft just have it all under the different account number for the airtime balance as one lump amount.
