Advents system

This is crazy, I’ve been comping since 2009 but I’ve never done the advents, I’ve always dropped off for a few months around that time but this year I’m still here and ready!

but looking at the advents thread I’m worried about how to keep track, do you bookmark the ones like you might a normal daily? Or is there another way to keep track, please let me know the best techniques xxxx
back to comping after a 2 year break!! Mission… to win a gift for all my family for Christmas!

  • I create folders on my browser bookmarks and save links to the ones I am interested in there. The link may be to the MSE thread or direct to the site. I sort them by start date then end date and a separate folder for weekly. Then work through them each day.
    Good Luck.🧑‍🎄

  • I do the same as BootsMullery but sort mine by web A-Z over 3 folders, social media A-Z 2 folders for each type of social media. I have a folder for enter early ones, gleam, multi social media, weekly and ones to go back to. I then open them a folder at a time and go through them.
All folders are sub folders in one main folder. The majority of links are MSE thread ones. Any really important ones I will also use the mse bookmark so that I get a notification by email.

Advents have been on the decline for years, speeded up by the increase in popularity of Black Friday/Cyber Monday which are both more inclusive than Advents - When Currys dropped their Wishlist (that had prizes worth £1,000s everyday around this time of year) they did so to explore other promotional opportunities. Many other companies have also dropped Advents and/or cut the value of prizes (which in recent years were often quite low anyway).

There is a browser extension called Onetab, what it does is make a tab in your browser of links. Imagine you see an advent comp, if you have Onetab you right click anywhere in that tab and a menu appears, you choose "send only this tab to One tab" . It closes that tab, and in your Onetab tab it becomes a link which you can right click to open or do several things with like move it in the list or name it. If you just click that link it restores and is no longer in the list so best to right click links.
You can have many tabs open, send them all to one tab, or all on the left, or right of a tab you are on.
If you close the browser it remembers, if you have two browsers, firefox and chrome, you can have two different lists.
Similar to bookmarks but simpler and more useful.
In advents, you can create your own list of ones you enter, or ones saved until you can enter later. Delete each when done.
It's really intended to save you being slowed by too many open tabs which it's great at.
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam
  • I use a spreadsheet and have the MSE link and direct link, that way if MSE is down I can still enter. Plus I record each day if I've entered each comp, that way I can go back later in the day for those that aren't active until later on. Seems the quickest way for me.
