Can someone help me please!!!I received a letter today as many of you have regarding HICBC BUT I am not legally responsible for the child that lives in my house. Her biological father received child benefit (as advised of entitlement by the child Benedict service) and now I’ve been slapped with this assessment.Am I really liable for this tax if I am not a biological parent and receive no benefits.0

As a google of HICBC would have shown:

Thanks @zagfles … it’s so unethical. I have no legal right I don’t receive any benefits for her, I’m not married to her biological dad and I have to pay more tax into the system!!! Athena system is so wrong! I pay enough tax as it is I shouldn’t have to pay a tax on something I don’t even receive.A further rant is that we don’t even get any money of the biological mother either! So so unfair!!0

So so unfair!!It's the way the benefits system in general works. The income of both partners is accounted for even if the children are only one partner's.Why are you getting no support from the biological mother? Have you contacted the CSA?0

I’m in a very similar position. My gross pay is just under £53,000 for 22/23 so I’ll need to do a tax return. Does anyone know if an EV car salary sacrifice scheme has any impact on this at all? It’s as clear as mud and I can’t get hold of HRMC!0

I'm currently paying 8% of my base salary into my pension via salary sacrifice (42% tax saving). I was hoping to add 75% of my annual bonus as it is over twice my monthly salary to help reduce the HICBC.However I have been informed by my employer bonuses can not be salary sacrificed only base salary. Anyone heard of this as I thought an annual bonus was part of your salary?0

The HICBC is an unfair system and should be available to everyone whatever their salary.
As is the higher rate threshold being frozen in time despite several years of ridiculous inflation.
Yet the stupid government spend billions getting into more debt, give handouts to furloughed (despite many also continuing to work) etc... on a pointless pandemic which was nothing more than a bad chest infection!!! Complete disaster, and has caused far more damage socially and mentally, especially to the young generations who were off school long term. And, to make matters even worse pretty much everyone got COVID (most more than once) anyway! ...The wealth of the stupid rich grew faster than ever and now we the working classes are being punished to pay for the clean up by not even covering the interest on the debt, which yes you guessed it, ends up in the pockets of the super rich. What a sick joke we live in!
Sorry, rant over (as a higher rate tax payer who can't claim HICB).1
