Water Filter cartridges

We’ve always used Brita cartridges in our water filter jug but since they went ‘green’ with a new filling they don’t last five minutes and the price is ridiculous. We’ve tried a couple of cheaper generic ones but honestly I could have knitted the Forth Bridge waiting for water to filter through one and the other just didn’t let any water through at all (despite doing all the getting rid of air bubbles, tapping to shake up the filling, etc. etc.) Has anyone found a decent cartridge that doesn’t cost stupid money and lasts a reasonable time?

Perhaps look at Phox who do a refillable cartridge to fit Brita jugs. I don't know how the price compares, but I've been happily using Phox's jugs and filters for the past 4 years.

We used to use Costco own Kirkland Signature, they fit a Brita Max jug. But have since switched to a filter tap.0
