Does anyone know if you can make additional payment alongside the agreed monthly loan cost without any financial penalties?

I know you can settle early.

what type of contract is it? car finance, personal loan or pcp

On a Halifax personal loan you can. I took a personal load and on the "what's it for" question I selected "Car" as there was no option for sex, drugs, lose women and gambling.

It can be overpaid and states you will save interest payments if you do so.

Yes, you can, i've done it.
It saves hundreds/thousands in interest.
