    Christmas cake failure:
That's a very pretty tin! I take it the cake was meant to fit in the tin but is a bit big? If so could you either shave some off the sides (and use to make a bread pudding-type dish later?) or pretend this is what you intended all along and present the cake in another way?

I find I have ideas about how I'd like things to go and if it doesn't work out, I have to tell myself that only I saw the original plan and other people don't know it's a 'failure'.

Happy Christmas, and enjoy the cakes - they look substantial enough for many cosy evenings with a glass of something nice.

  • Bought cakes are so small @Rosa_Damascena !
I bought Aldi marzipan, ingredients, sugar, almonds 25%, glucose syrup, invert sugar syrup. A thin layer of marzipan and royal icing on the top of the cake is enough. I wonder when the glossy paper Christmas cake collar became popular? I remember Mum using them.
Icing on cakes was banned, no iced buns or iced wedding cakes in the WW2 rationing years.

Tbh I think icing on a fruit cake is like gilding a lily! But I do like to stab-and-feed on a regular basis.
