I discovered filtered milk several months ago.  I thought it was a bit of a con but it really does keep for longer.  The 2 litre bottle of semi skimmed I bought this morning has a use by date of 12 December which is more or less when I will have used it up.
I get through mine (regular milk) fast although I have noticed the dates aren't that long I'm satisfied big bottles can last until at least 5 days beyond the date.

Having said that I got 4 x 2pints in a TGTG box on Thursday so I plan to make a vat of rice pudding today! Will keep the kitchen warm and inviting even though it will be cold outside.

Buy bigger container because it works out so much cheaper per unit.
I only use it for making kefir so put some in the freezer in plastic bottles- full fat variety- freezes fine

Last time I made rice pudding from out of date milk it curdled, not saying yours will. But mine was a complete disaster 😪
  • I think on the farms milk as badly curdled at that would probably be fed to the pigs.  But I bet your back pocket is as empty of pigs as mine is!

  • In the late 1950s my dad used to collect curdled milk in the summer from neighbours who didn’t have fridges.  We would eat it for dessert.  Sometimes he would strain some through muslin and make soft cheese which tasted tangy.

    Hi @spaceflyer

Interesting idea.   I did, once, try to strain the curdled milk but a litre only gave me a couple of tablespoons of curds.
