Hi , please help. I have received a letter from this company (no letter head, vat no, contact name, reference no etc) stating that I owe a utility bill for a property I owned as landlord in 2000 - £1500. There were never any bills in my name as the tenants were responsible so I know this isn't true. They don't state what the utility is and I have never had any communications about this previously. The tel no on the letter is incorrect and the letter doesn't look professional. Is this legit? Can they try and claim for something over 20 years old with no paperwork. I know I didn't sign up for electric/gas/community charge or water for this address. On the letter it states that they know I owned the property as they checked with the land registry. The bill couldn't have been in my name if they had to check this. Has anyone got any experience of this? thanks

If you put Pastdue into search on this forum you will see they are well known for this rubbish.
Ignore the letter, don't what ever you do speak to them.
Until you get a letter before action ( highly unlikely ) you can just ignore them.
If you do get anything you are not happy with come back with details. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.1 -
The limitation period in the UK is 6 years for most simple contract debts.
A 23 year old utility bill is most definitely statute barred.
You can ignore it, or send the statute barred letter to put it to bed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
