Grandparents childcare credit

Hi
I completed a form back in April this year to apply for missing years in my NI record through Grandparents childcare credit to boost my pension
I know it was received by the department in April and as to date I hadn’t heard anything so I decided to give them a call.
I was informed that yes they have the completed form but its still waiting to be assigned to someone to deal with (7 months).I was told that there are backlogs.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced a long wait or is this just the norm.
Thanks

Currently up to a year to deal with postal items.
  • They probably won`t have even looked at it until the end of October

    From Gov website ..
You must wait until 31 October after the end of the tax year you want to apply for.

This is because we need to check the parent or main carer already has a qualifying year for National Insurance purposes.

    Have a nice day :)

I submitted a claim in April and it has just been actioned upon with 2021/22 showing as full year. No letter from the DWP re when it will be added to pension or National Insurance credit department as yet. My year has been updated on the state pension forecast page though. Now to wait for the 2022/23 year to be actioned so hopefully that will be in the 35 weeks as stated.

I’ve now had a reply from HMRC and it has been agreed that I have tax credits to be added letter from 30 November 23 but as yet have no additional payments in my pension, when I call them I can’t get a definitive answer as to when it will be added and if I get any back pay on this, I’m told there are notes on the system but as yet no has happened? Is this normal
  • My 2021/22 year has now been allocated but I had to ring the specialist team under change of circumstances at DWP. They were aware of the added year but apparently do not action until contacted? I saw it had been added to my years on state pension forecast page.
This was done last week and yesterday I got arrears of pension from August 23 paid into my account and then today a letter saying pension had increased.
only 2022/23 to be actioned now. Whether this will be backdated is another matter.
Not sure why DWP won’t action year added when informed by HMRC without contact by claimant?
  • I applied for the first time in early November for 2022/23 but have not heard back from them, should I expect a letter or will they just add the year to my NI credits?

They will just add the credits when they process the form.  8 months or so seems to be the current time frame.
