£110 'lost' Apple Pay payment

I attempted to purchase a jacket from Mountain Warehouse online on November 2nd. I didn't have my wallet on me at the time so when it got to the checkout I used Apple Pay to complete. I had an authorisation confirmation from Apple Pay there and then but no confirmation from mountain warehouse by email to say that they had received my order.

The next day I saw that the amount of £110.49 had been debited from my nationwide bank account. It was also showing as an approved transaction in my Apple wallet app.  By Saturday I had still not heard from Mountain warehouse so contacted them to find out what had happened to my order. They emailed back to say that the transaction had failed, the order had not been processed and that I should go back to Apple Pay to claim a refund.

I spoke to an agent at  Apple on the phone who said that the transaction has gone through and was indeed fault of Mountain warehouse. I also spoke to nationwide who gave me the transaction ID. I went back to mountain warehouse to provide the transaction ID but they still say that no transaction exists. So £110.49 of my money has gone missing. Nobody is accepting responsibility. I have this evening completed a transaction dispute with nationwide giving as much information as possible but because they say I have used Apple Pay to complete the checkout there is no guarantee I will get any money back.

Can anyone advise me what my next step should be as I really think it's unfair that I just accept this has happened and that no one takes responsibility. Many thanks

It’s unlikely that any payment made to a store would actually be debited 24 hours later. It’s most likely pending and will drop off within a few days. If not, then you should be able to do a chargeback. I can’t imagine why using Apple Pay would make a difference as it’s still your card you’re using.

    Edited to add.

Sorry, I noticed you said the payment was made on 2nd November so it should have dropped off by now but can take up to 10 days in some cases.
  • Definitely not showing as a pending transaction, it's approved and debited.

Get Nationwide to do a Chargeback. Same could have happened with standard card or PayPal, its not necessarily an Apple Pay issue.
