Notice of Assignment from Capquest - confusion

Hi,

Today I received a letter from Capquest informing me there is new legal ownership of an account. They are referring to HBOS which I note from a previous post on this forum is Halifax Bank of Scotland.

More than 20 years ago I had a Halifax account. I left the UK and returned a few years ago.  I currently do not have an account with them.

The letter informs me that the balance on my account was £xxx. It does not mention a minus sign nor is the amount in brackets. So, does this mean this is the amount they are claiming I owe them?

Would this be an example of when I should use the Prove-it letter that was recently updated by Sourcrates?

Thanks,
Littlemiss

Are they actually asking for payment?

It sounds like they may be aware this is statute barred and this is just for information.
