Mortgage affordability calculator

When completing a mortgage affordability calculator and answering questions about monthly expenditure. When they ask about pensions (private or company), is this generally asking about contributions made in addition to those deducted from gross pay? Or do they count those deductions as monthly expenditure?

It varies from lender to lender but if it asks, enter what's on your payslips or what goes out of your bank account.I am a mortgage broker.
