PCN Court Claim

Hi, newbie here, my apologies if this is already a thread, but I couldn't find the answers I needed elsewhere.
I received a PCN back in March, for parking in on a private car park in February. The machine was not easy to use and I thought I had paid the £2 parking as a ticket was released, which I placed on my dashboard. Turns out the slip was for 15 minutes free parking and not the however many hours I thought I had paid for (The payment didn't go through). Now back to March. The letter had a photo of my vehicle at the time (no longer my vehicle) with a ticket on the windscreen. However, when I got to my vehicle on that date, there was no ticket on my car. This letter I had received was claiming £170 for missing the payment of (I think) £40 which was apparently on my vehicle. I responded back to the parking company stating, that there was no fine on my car for me to respond to and that I thought I had paid. No dice, the £170 stands. Now I followed the advice on here to ignore the bailiff letters and such. But now I finally have my claim form, summoning me to court etc. I am in the midst of filling out my acknowledgement of service, but I don't know whether to defend the whole claim or part of the claim?
Also I would appreciate any help from here on out if possible as this is the first time I am going through anything remotely like this.
Thank you all for your help and if I've essentially duplicated a thread, please direct me to a relevant thread and I will close this one.
