Transferring pension to SIPP timing

  • Hi. I'm also considering the same issue. If you have the option to convert to cash or money market funds within your legacy provider before you issue the instruction to transfer that may be an option to at least put the timing in your own hands, as the transfer to cash/ MMF within your legacy scheme would likely be much quicker to action than the sale and transfer to the the SIPP.

I posted a similar question a couple of weeks ago. I have just transferred a pension from SJP, (invested in it's own funds) into ii so cash was the only option. It is very nerve wracking not knowing exactly when the funds will be sold and then transferred and then depending on what you buy with the cash, that is often not instant either. Mine went through within a few days of the request through Origo and fortunately I spotted the funds had landed and re-invested before receiving official notification that the transfer was complete. I could have drip fed it in over a period but just bit the bullet and invested and will now forget it ever happened and live with the consequences whether they are good or bad!

    A wise move
