Single person & Council Tax

My son & his wife lived with me to save up for their own home so I did not claim single person discount. They found a home and paid full council tax immediately but continued living with me for another year (covid severely delayed the work) as the house needed full renovation (but deemed habitable so no CT exemption). I thought if you had someone living with you but they paid council tax on their own residence, then you would be entitled to claim single person discount? I cannot find the answer online & am not confident in advice give by local authority, anyone know the definitive answer? Thanks

You would not be entitled to SPD as you had someone living with you. The fact they were paying CT elsewhere is irrelevant in this case as they were not living there. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
