So much to read, so little time.2 -
Everything furniture wise in my house is second hand apart from our bed which is 20 years old and one of the sofas. Like other posters I find older furniture seems to be much more solid and better made.My favourite sofa though is a cream leather IKEA one which is a dream of comfort. My clothes (except undies and socks) are charity shop or Vinted as are most of my China and home wares. However I like to think despite this frugality that I dress smartly and that my home is stylish (I’m lucky that DH is both handy and artistic.
Appliance wise I have a 12 year old Zanussi washer, a Zanussi fridge freezer and a second hand Bosch under counter integrated fridge which is much better quality than the Hoover one I had previously. I replaced my Kenwood silver dishwasher that I had had for 12 years with a Siemens one which was twice as much but is much more efficient in every way.
For me being fairly frugal is a way of life, but one that I enjoy and embrace. I still feel I have lots of lovely things. I love the thrill of finding bargains at the auction and charity shops, and return stuff there when I’m done with it.6
